My Name is Lalitha Sampathi. I’m 25 years old and I’m from the city of Hyderabad India. I come from a very poor community, my father died during my childhood, my mother is and has always been an agricultural laborer, and my family lives in poverty. In my 10th year of school I passed everything, but my education was stopped by my family due to financial problems. At that time I was 17 years old, but I was allowed to join IWO (Indian women's organization).
IWO and The Sampathi Foundation-Charity are Affiliates.
As a 17 year old organizer for IWO I was given a monthly salary which helped me to feed to my poor family. I worked 6 months as an organizer, however, I wanted to continue my studies. IWO and The Sampathi Foundation, chief persons, supported me and I was able to continue my studies. I joined in Smt. Durgabai Deshmukh Polytechnic College supported by Sampathi Foundation Charity. I was there for three years and afterwards I decide to work in The Sampathi Foundation.
My goal was and remains to be: the complete removal of poverty in rural and slum areas of two states: Andhra Pradesh and Telangana of India.
The last four years in both these states of South India, I worked with our volunteer team for women and children's empowerment and children’s education for the poor. I married a teacher and social activist, and we have two wonderful children, one daughter and one son. My Spanish friend Rosa Lopez named my son Alexander, and my husband named our daughter Rudhrama Devi.
Some friends continue supporting me from: USA, CANADA, AUSTRALIA, FINLAND, SPAIN, GERMANY and INDIA. Living in Hyderabad I am now the secretary at The Sampathi Foundation-charity. I was given this promotion and title because of my hard work and dedication.
Currently, we have been working on providing food for 150 underprivileged children and we are aiming to reach out to 500 underprivileged children at the Hyderabad slums area.
